I changed the fuel filter on my 97 F250 HD today and found it to be very black. last change showed only slight discoloration. I haven't noticed any major changes in the way it runs or starts. What could the symptoms be if the injector o-rings are leaking? Is there something I should look at to determine that the o-rings are in fact leaking before I tear into the engine? Also, is a black filter only caused by o-rings or can it be caused by something else? I usually try to get the facts before making a decision (good or bad)
Yep, most likely O-Rings, but possibly bad fuel that had some microbiale growth in it. But I bet its your o-rings. pull your fuel regulator off, there is a plastic black housing hanging off the bottom, clean the screen in there, and there is a screen on the side of the fuel bowl, from the reg. to the fuel bowl, clean that with a Q-tip also.
