When I bought my truck it had the common problem of the OD switch not working. Just got around to pulling it apart today to find my broken wires. Now here's the problem. The wires broke so close to where they go into the shifter shaft that there's no way I'll be able to splice them. So I thought, no biggie, I'll just pull the end of the handle/switch off and splice them and run new wires down the shaft. How in the heII do you get the switch off? I've tried twisting, pulling, prying with a flathead in the little slot on the back side. I can't get this thing to even budge. I'm sure it's something I'm just missing, but I can't get it off. Thanks in advance.
on my truck the end cap around the button just pops off, in fact if i grab the end wrong it will come off when i shift out of park. i have already replaced it once it was like $5.00 at the dealer
I have the shifter handle completely removed from the truck and sitting on my kitchen table. I've tried pulling, prying, twisting every way I can think of and I can't get the end/switch off. Maybe the previous owner glued it on?!!??
Ended up just beating, wedging, and prying the ***** out of it. Finally it came off. Used some thin wire to splice near the switch, then fed it back into the shaft. Connected the new wires to the existing ones on the column and she's all back together now and working perfect.
