I have a 78 F-150 4x4.It has a 351M.I want a big block.Any recomendations? Im considering a 460 or a 429.Also any certain year models for this engine? Should I buy a rebuilt one,or a used one and have it re-built? I would basicly just like to have something with a moderate cam, headers, nice carb, and still not sure about the heads.400+ hp wouldnt be bad if it could be done for possibly under 3 grand? Or am I dreaming now?

IMHO...just go with the 460. With moderate cam, alum intake manifold, double roller timing gears, 600 - 750 carb (750 preferred), some head work...you should be able to get that 400+ hp you are looking for.
I would recommend going with a long block...that has already been rebuilt.
Im looking at building a 429 for my 56 f100. I have the c9ve heads which are the 72-75 cc, This motor from the factory had 11.1 comp ratio. Piston selection appers to be the best way to solve this problem. There are a lot of choices for pistons for the 460, but the 429 is quite limited.
