I have a 67 F 100 4x4 w/ a crappy dana 21 T-case,and am in the process of swaping Dana 60 rear and Dana 44 hd axles from a 78 F 250 under her.I have found a 66 F 600 w/a clark 5 sp trans{ no O.D.} that I was thinking about using does any one know of an adapter to mate this trans to a 205 or should I use a divorced 205? any thoughts or suggestions will be appriciated.
I have two clarks and one came out of a 4wd f600 that had a rockwell t-case in it.
I did some looking around a few years ago and thats all i could find for adaptors. If your going to go the divorced route make sure youve got a divoced 205.The clarks have i beleve 1350 u joints, some 1370,big stuff.make sure you use the same size joints on the stub shaft.
If push comes to shove you might find a decent machine shop that could make you an adaptor.
I would go the divorced tc route, although you are going to have an extra shaft and 2 u-joint it'll save you some money and the hassle of getting an adapter made.
I've always wanted to see one of those 5sp's in a off road rig as they have one heck of a first gear, plus they're syncro'd too (at least the ones i've driven).
That tranny is also a good way to transplant a different brand motor into another truck as you just need to grab the correct bellhousing as they came behind chev, ford, and dodge motors.
if you are still curious you might give advanced adapters a call. i am sure they can at least tell you what needs to be done to get them together. i know they will make you something but i also know you have to sell a kidney, left nut, a lung, and half your stomach to get one!
This is what I was thinking about, if you had to do everything yourself I guess you could make that a REALLY short shaft and put the Tcase right as close to the tranny as possible. I dunno
FWIW, my LWB (can't really call it "long"... "not-short"?) F100 has a divorced NP205 and there is a fair amount of distance between the xfer case and rear end. In fact, I'm using a telescoping shaft for a lifted early Bronco and it's just long enough to be comfortable. I think it's about 34" fully compressed.
I was working on a Wrangler the other day... that thing has a crazy rear shaft, like 2 foot.
Mount the TC and Xmission so close that you simple have to drop a U-joint in the yokes.
Nah, just have a stubby shaft. Actually, what I think Jopey (where'd he run off to?) did and others have proposed is making it so that the front and rear shafts are equal length so that if you blow the rear shaft the front can be thrown back there to get you home.
Thanks, eveyone, for the advice.my rig is a LWB.I got the Clark out of a old firetruck w/13k miles for $100.00.It had a 240 I6,so I'll have to scrounge a bellhousing.I havent gotten it out yet because it's been a field for 2 yrs and I dont feel like battling snakes just yet.I'm a wussie when It comes to snakes.
