Hello, first time posting here. Guess i'll get strait to the problem. I have a 88 4x4 that i'm replacing the transmission in. I'm having problems removing the slave cylindar input line. I've got the special tool and a press in and pull out, but still nothing. Am i not pulling hard enough? or not enough pressure pushing inwards? any help would be apreciated.
Where the line connects to the slave cylinder, there is a white plastic collar. That collar needs to be pushed forward (can even do it with a screwdriver, don't need tool). When that gets pushed forward, it should release the coupler and you should be able to pull the line out. I couldn't do this on my 89 F-250. Over time grime and dirt got in there and I couldn't push that collar forward without destroying it. I had to cut the line and replace it. Once I saw what was inside the line, I felt it needed to be replaced anyway. Many poeple don't ever change their clutch fluid and dirt clogs up that line. It can reduce fluid flow and cause clutch activation problems, or make it harder to operate the clutch. I replaced the master cylinder, the hydraulic line, and slave.
Thanks, That was a great help. I'm almost 3/4's of the way through the transmission change. if it wasn't for the rain outside i'd probably be done by now!
