I went down to the cement plant road to play with my gtech meter. I had a hard time getting traction on the dusty road, then a local volunteer fireboy came by in an Expy with lights on the top and told me "the road was private and I should quit doing that and leave". I did so nicely. I should have told him to STFU, go cook some catfish and drink a miller lite. What authority does he have to tell me to get off a private road. I think he just wanted an Ego boost from giving me a hard time. He knew the lights on the top would rattle my cage. Why couldn't he just be cool and say "nice truck, you probably shouldn't be doing that on this private road" or something like that... I think he was just jeal;ous because the truck was sounding good, and getting a little sideways in 2nd gear at about 40 mph..
the tranny is still leaking. Iv'e about decided to park in the grass and carry some fluid...that sounds like a fix to me. It runs pretty good. it could use a shift kit.
Well Greg, it sounds like your motor is running well if your even getting sideways in 2nd....COOL!!!
I guess I'am going to have too get ahold of that guy I bought my Gtech from? The wife said she didnt get it out of the mail... She had Pulled out a shift light out of the mail..and held it for ransom for my B-Day...she didnt know what it was!! LOL..
The link from you main page worked for me, yes we have Quicktime. The link in the first post was still loading when I logged off yesterday, pretty slow for dial up.
I sure like the way that engine sounds. Did the tranny temp gauge show a temperature problem? If it's not getting hot I can't see how it can be leaking from the vent.

the hottest I've seen was about 216F after getting offf the highway in downtown Austin, driving the stop and go streets.
I installed the new fan controller for the flex-a-lite fans, and that appears to be working. So, that should help keep the tranny a little cooler. There's definitely a relationship between the engine and tranny temp. Duh!
I've just about decided to drive it, carry some ATF and park in the grass when possible :-) Im' thinking about driving it to work tonight. hat's always a good way to find out what's going to fail next.
oh, and my little cameras built-in microphone doesn't do the motor/exhaust justice. It sounds even better in person.
yep...nothing like being on the road middle of the night with noone around to flush out the problems....LOL. If it's any consolation, I've got a transmission leak myself...fortunately my leak is in a splice in a transmission line. My transmission is shifting very crisply with the rebuild and shift kit. I wish my engine was doing as well. I've got a few issues. It kills out if you get on it too hard from a dead stop...I think the distributor needs to be recurved to come in quicker. It also cuts out a little above 4000 rpm....don't know what that is yet. The biggest issue I've got though is handling. The truck was always a little squirrelly on the road. Now that I've got some real power, the front end raises up quite a bit more than it used to when you punch it and then the truck is all over the road. I can't keep it straight for nothing...I also think the locker rear end pulls the front end around...especially when hitting curves and such. I'm about to order sway bars front and rear and see what that does. I may attempt kingpin bushings...although I REALLY DON'T want to get into that.
It is running quite well. It's stumbles a little at the very top of the power band (say 4500rpm+). but, we've done very little tuning on the new BG850 carb. I've got a full tuning kit, so we'll find the right combination (we= Strokster :-) It blows through the launch and the lower 4000rpms like a champ. With more tire spinning power than ever before clear up in the 50-60mph range. It's kinda scary. With the detroit locker, it's spinning both tires even at higher speeds.
I'll post another thread about timing. I have a question...

If I can make a suggestion; take some corrugated (cardboard) and set it under the leaky area, maybe weight it down with something. It's cheap, available, (no comments from the peanut gallery!) and easy to dispose of. I've made more than a few property managers happy with that approach.
I like to use it when I have undercarriage work. It's easy to slide across, insulates from the heat/cold, cushions those nasty little pebbles that grind into your back. When the work is done, roll up the mess and throw it away.
The tranny appaers to be venting less. maybe I just had it too full after recovering from the track trip fiasco (maybe I just got it too hot that night with the exhaust clamp laying against the tranny). It's still leaking a little from my cooler/temp sensor plumbing. But, at least I know what it is. The temp seems to be in a decent running range, low 100s to 215 depending on driving and ambient temp.
I didnt make the track last night. I slept too late yesterday. So I spent last night working on one of the other toys...check out some of the new mods..bumpers, winch etc, http://www.thedreyerfamily.com/2005jeep.htm
