On a long haul with my 7500# trailer across the so Calif desert, my check engine light came on and stayed on for a day until I parked it for the night. No open dealer within several hundred miles. Next day no check engine light and all seemed well, except that several times the manifold pressure release valve let go under moderate load.
Now my '04 F250 (late October '03 bulld) is in the Ford shop in South Lake Tahoe. Their diesel mechanic tells me that a vane is stuck in the variable geometry turbocharger impeller, manifold pressure at one time was over 50 psi, and that my intercooler is blown and it and the turbo needs replacing. A common problem he says. They have the replacement turbo in stock, but are waiting on a back order from FMC on the intercooler. Anyone else have these problems? Any comments or advice?
My truck only has 16000 miles on it. After reading some of the issues here, I am seriously thinking of selling it and my trailer, and getting a motorhome after this vacation. Can you say 454 Vortec, Allison, and Workhorse? Should I?

No. If you want a moho that's cool, but based on what I've seen with the 3 folks in my shop that bought Class A's within the last year the only guy that is really happy is the 1 guy that got a pusher. They are a lot more money but if you're going to go that route find a way to do it right.
We've entertained the idea of going to a moho but we have a lot of friends we camp with that have diesels and every single one of them won't shut up about how much nicer they are than the gassers they traded in. Someday we'll have a real nice pusher moho but for now we've decided to keep going with a truck and trailer combo.
p.s. When's the last time you saw a gas powered Class A passing people up a mountain pass?........Yeah, me neither On the flip side I see 40' pushers (with big enclosed trailers in tow) blowing the doors off small cars up some of the passes.
