1) Are fireworks legal for the average consumer in Kansas, or do you have to be a licensed pyrotech?

2) Are any members pyrotechs?

3) Would fireworks at a Rally constitute an unworkable insurance problem?

In most cities they are legal for a few days before the 4th and illegal after the fourth. I don't know what it takes to do pyros, but they are often used during the year for special celebrations in communities.

July the 1st I believe is it for Canada's national day.

There wouldn't be a much point celebrating another countires Independance...~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I celebrate both.
I Fly the Canadian Ensign (that's thr flag I was born under)
I fly the Stars & Stripes to really celebrate freedom in a way that Canada doesn't.
Plus, I have to believe the US is the one of the only Military that would help protect us ,,because the few Canoes & Sligshots the liberals have left us with to use aren't very anymore effective ab
Rollie, I believe Alberta is the home to at least 80% of American's living in Canada.
We also have Fireworks in the toen I live in.
Chad won the 56 Ford truck that signifies the Canadian Company that sells fireworks here.
Fireworks are always legal where I live, maybe I could bring some, and they just went off by their selves.....I dont know who lit them.
Let's see, crawfish, shrimp, fireworks, oysters on the half shell...aww yeah.
They have a fireworks display at the track on the 4th and you can see two or three other displays from the parking lot.
Fireworks can be used anytime with the proper permit and insurance. Our minor league baseball team, the Wichita Wranglers (KC Royals) have fireworks displays after a lot of their home games. I know that usually a company has to come in to do the work, and it's not usually cheap.
I am all for having it the last weekend in June or even earlier in June. June can't be that hot in KC! Seems like everybody plans events, family outings, etc, etc, etc, on the "long weekend". I think this may hurt attendance as people always have too many things to attend on that weekend. Just my thoughts - hope to make it to next years rally too!
I have a good friend of mine that is licensed to shoot off fireworks. I can pretty much guaruntee he will do it for just the price of the shells. I believe he can go up to 8" mortars. He was talking about getting legal for the 10s and 12s but havent heard yet. He does have the electronic firing board also.
Let me know.
Question:
What holiday is it to make the June 24/25th weekend a Long Weekend ?
From My 16 years of Experience;
It's common knowledge in the car show circuit that unless the people are on holiday's, that shows that are not held on Long Weekends attract less long distance people and just basically just attract short distance travellers ie: (within 120 miles)
If this is truly meant to be a National Event it would allow more travelling time.
ie: People arrive late Friday & leave Monday.
Plus you can cheat, use a day less vacation and get the whole week off.
I think if people know about it far enough in advance, they'll make arrangements anyway, but if it's on the 4th, there might be a few families willing to enjoy a fireworks show in KC....and maybe, for the same reason, there wouldn't be a lot of people travelling otherwise (for example, having it on Memorial Day weekend would suck), which would mean both more people around KC to come enjoy the show, and less traffic on the highway for those of us planning to travel in vehicles that probably really should stay off the highways.
Apparently some confusion here. Dennis, there is no U.S. holiday on the June 24th/25th weekend, but I think most of us are convinced you'll have very few people show up if we hold it the weekend of July 4th. Around here, that's when everyone goes to their cottage at the lake for the start of "real" summer, or holds the annual family picnic before attending the local fireworks display. I know you said that June doesn't work for the Canadians because the kids are still in school, so that kills the 3rd weekend in June, right? The weekend of July 4th would be a loser for the reasons I just described, and anything after that is just too hot in KC. Nearly every school in the U.S. has let out by the 3rd weekend, so the 4th wekend in June still appears the best compromise for everyone involved. You're never going to find the "ideal" date for everyone.
That pretty much sums it up Jeff. The fourth is a big holiday and it is in the middle of the week this year so for most it will not be 3-day weekend. Thus people will wan tot spend the little time they have at family things.
Thank Jeff, I am just adding my comments for more discussion or find out about more American culture.
People around here won't go more than 100 miles for a 2 day camp weekend.This is why I mention after school gets out.
This only affects the people with kids in school though.
See, In my case it doesn't matter.
I'm only bringing this up for people like Gordo, that travelled 2500 miles & took how many days to get there.Even without the rear end going out.
2500 miles is 4 to 5 days driving for ONE person who is doing the actual driving.
so 5 days to get there...5 days to get back 2 day show
1500 mile trip = minimum 3 days to get there 2 day show ...minimum 3 days to get home
Except for Manitobans ,because of the time needed,Canadians wouldn't do this unless they are on vacation.
Never mind the price of fuel & exchange rate.
This is the very reason I was ecstatic when I found out about Gord from Kitimat & what Ken said & did for him
I was also thrilled that Terry from Everett Wa made it.
It wasn't the same feeling for Gene as this meet is close to his heart.
These are my only real points.
If people have the vacation time,No child in school, rich enough for the fuel they buy, accomodation on the way there & back,plus once they are there.
The meet will require picking the best date possible.
I'm not trying to be negative,I'm just trying to offer insight like you replied with Jeff
So basically it's , How to attract the most people from all over the US & Canada.
The last weekend in June works for me as we can use it as a stop over before going on to Iowa for our family reunion on the 4th of July. Dennis is right , this show does mean a lot to me and all my family in the Kansas FTE group. Just my $.02 worth
Talk about driving, well Gene had drive from southern cal to Iowa and back for a family reunion on the 4th of July then then turned around and did the 2500-3000 mile round trip back again to Kansas for the show. Yes the show means a lot to Gene and all the KS Chapter family but that is still a long haul to make twice in one month as well as taking him away from his work. I myself was ecstatic that he made the second trip from Calif. in one month.
One of the things that we are looking for with this date is just what Gene said about going on to the family reunion for the 4th. We can possibly get people planning to and coming by on their way to other family gatherings for the 4th Holiday.
At 70mph a 1500 mile trip can be done in 2 days easy a 2500 miler should be able to be done in 3 if you drive straight through. I know it's a long haul and hard driving but with close to a year to plan for it then people should be able to make the needed arrangements to attend. That is the thought behind it anyway.
