Hello i have a 1989 Ford F250 Reg Cab diesel 4x4, i have a downpipe rubbing issue with it. I was curious to see if i will need to remove the downpipe in order to bend the firewall more in order for it to fit better. PLEASE SAY NO!!!!
If i do have to remove it, how the heck hard is it to remove, this is on a brand new ATS turbo that has less then 10 miles on it, it looks like the pipe is just shoved into the exhaust outlet on the back of the turbo.
89 F250 reg cab C6 Tranny 4.11 gearing ATS turbo
Thanks

yep, its an interferrence fit into the outlet of the turbo. should be a bolt holding it from swinging too. look along the down pipe and you will find it. you use that flange to install the downpipe and to remove it by hitting with a hammer. why didnt the guy who did the install correct the problem?
If you donot see the seem at the firewall flatterned then you will have to remove down pipe. Before removing mark the general area on the firewall seem. To remove, there should be a bracket from the cross over to the down pipe, remove, then undo the band glamp that connects the down pipe to the exhaust. Once you have done this the pipe needs a little help from a rubber mallet (if the insall was done correctly there should be never sieze on the pipe to turbo out let). With pipe out take a 2 inch or so thick walled tube and bend the firewall lip flat to the firewall, that should give you the clearance. Check to make sure, you mat have to put a "dent" to give extra.
