Thunkin'
Also, since I'm in a typin mood...I recently had new tires put on. She's a little out of alignment so I took it to a national tire chain. They told they couldn't do it until I had the following done: new lower ball joints at 255 labor plus parts for what she said was a 30minute job. They also said I had dry rot on the bushings of my front shocks and that since front and back are the originals that came on the trcuk, I should get them replaced. Another 300-400, again less than an hour. About 900 total for both jobs. Is this something that is like critical to get done. it's sad as much as I've tried to learn, there is so much I don't know.
As for the ball joints, with that milage, they may well be worn out. The parts are cheap, it's the labor that makes it expensive, but $900, I don't think so....
get another estimate. If you're the DIY type, it's not too hard to do, but you do need some special tools, which you can rent.
