OK, my engine rebuild has come to a rapid halt. I'm stuck aswith what to do next. When I got the engine apart I found out the engine had already been bored out .3000 over. Which was something I had planned on doing. Upon further inspection, I discover that the whole engine has already been rebuilt, and probably within the last 3 years or so. Which Is rather disappointing because I realize now that I could have just replaced my heads and been OK. My heads were my initial problem. The crank shaft had also been bored out .1000 over. Please forgive my terms if I'm not correct. I'm new to engines. So basically it is my understanding that I can savce my pistons and crank shaft, but I will have to replace all my bearings, oil pump, cam shaft, lifters, rings, and more I may have overlooked. My "replacement" engine that I put it so I could keep my truck running while I rebuilt mine is on a very short lifeline right now. I just dicovered antifreeze getting into the oil today. I want to get this rebuilt FAST! My friend told me I need a "mild" rebuild kit.
Can anyone recommend a catalog or online supplier that I can trust I will get good parts? Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks.
Just go to your local auto parts house. They ahould have everything you need. If you have to have it mail ordered, I have had good service from summitracing.com. Their catalog and website cater to the high performance crowd, but they carry normal service parts too if you call them.
Call Summit Racing for your rebuild kit (1-800-230-3030). I recently did the same thing with my truck, new rings and bearings, old pistons and crank. My rebuild kit came with new rings, bearings, gaskets and seals. The kit was around $170. Just make sure you take the block and crank to a machine shop and have the clearances checked. Have them clean all your parts while your there, its cheaper and easier than doing it yourself!!!
