cheap tips

i have a 300-6 and it sounds like a ricer, do you think that if i cut the exhaust back about 3 feet and put a big old 3.5 inch pipe it would make a good sound? in other words would it deepen the sound like long tips do?

mine sounds like rice too, and im running no cats, single 2.5 inch pipe all the way back with a cherry bomb. id like to know how to solve this too, sounds like my buddys honda civic.
