whats the best sounding pipes you've heard on a f150?
i plan on either getting 2 1/4'' straight from the converters to 3 inch tips or just 12 inch glass packs with 3 inch tips... but wondering what sounds good on these trucks... i have a 95 with a 5.0. wanting something clean sounding but not like too loud to where it wraps out when you get on it.
if have straight pipes and love it and so does a lot of others and i have a single 3" cat back. doesn't wrap out at high rpms. and it was cheaper so i did it that way
Don't listen to Egoman. 3" duals is WAY too big, especially for a 302. 2.25" is the optimum balance for the power level and cubes of a stock to relatively stock 302. 2.5" is great for a 351, I might go 3" duals on a 390 or a 460.
You will lose torque BADLY on 3" duals. Sure it will probably sound decent, but it will hurt you around town.
If you want sound (and power gains and fuel mileage gains) then get rid of the catalytic converters). Otherwise, for muffling devices...glasspacks are cheap and sound good (mine is one of the best sounding trucks in town, and no other FORD sounds better and I have glasspacks), if you want it a little quieter downlow but still loud up top, turbo mufflers are good for that. If you don't like the popping of glasspacks, just straight pipe it. For tips...I'd go 3.5" or 4" tips, and make sure they are at least 12" long, if not 18" or 24" like mine.
If you go single exhaust, you can get away with a 3" single. Optimum would be like 2.875 I believe, but 3" works. Single exhaust is theoretically optimum, but you don't get the sound of duals.
3" Single, cat-back like Egoman said, will not hurt anything. 2.5" dual-catback will sound better. I ran 3" cat-back and didnt sound loud at all. My uncle runs 2.5" cat-back with a 20" glasspack and it has a nice rumble to it.
yea i def. want duals
and i dont mind the glasspack sounds... actually my friend has a 63 impala with 18'' packs with 3 inch tips and it sounds excellent... love it... im sure it wont sound a thing like it but he also only has a 283 in it. i actually prefer glasspacks to anything else
so what size/size tips would you go with on glasspacks?
i have 3 inch into a flowmaster 40 series 2 chamber no cat and it exits right in front on the passanger side back tire and it sounds great not too loud and full of rumble
how much would flowmasters put ya down in the pocket?
i went to a car show a couple weeks back and there was a booth of flowmaster there and they sounded excellent on the old cars

If you read the post it says for SINGLE use 3" all the way......and thats not too big...or else all the single catback systems would never sell. I should have said after the Y pipe its 3" all the way back....You dont want to go from your 2.25 Y to a 2.25 Single pipe....you will lose on resriction, go with a nice Y into a 3 inch catback. OR I would go with 2.5" from the headers all the way back and use a 3" tip for looks and sound.....If its one thing i know its exhaust.
I have an 86 F-150 with a 5.0 with headers and true duals(no Y Pipe) into glass packs. 2 1/4 pipe into 3 inch tips. Sounds Wicked. All my buddies love it.
O btw NO Cats either and the cops don't bother me either
