Hello, just purchased an 05 screw lariat. I live in Michigan, lots of salt in the winter months. Is undercoating a good investment these days? Not sure that I'll keep the truck for 10+ years or not. What's everyones opinion?
I live in Michigan as well. It is worth the investment - We get some pretty bad winters. I would recommend it - I have a 2004 Lariat with the Ziebart undercoat.
You shouldn't have anything to worry about for 10 years. If you're not planning on keeping it longer than that, don't bother wasting your money. I have 2 vehicles, I had one undercoated, the other I wasn't. There is no difference. However, I do keep the vehicles fairly clean.

I live in Minnesota (same salt belt as yourself) and I had undercoating put on my F-150 not because I though the thing would rust out but because it makes the ride a little quieter.
I went ahead and spent the $150 to have mine undercoated and I live down south. I'm not too worried about rust-through but I would rather have the added protection than not have it, especially in the wheel wells.
I had a 2000 f-150 I wanted to rustproof, never did and guess what.
At the end of 2004 IF ya looked under, you would have thought it was a 70
model.
Had to buy all 4 rotors and some brake line.
Make sure they rustproof brakelines thru frame above gas tank if poss.
I loved that truck even if it was rusty but it was 2wd and needed 4
At home it sat on gravel rock. I have since heard this can be bad.
And o'yes i went to car wash that sprayed underbody.

It can hurt. It can stop up drain holes and passages and cause water to collect and cause rustout problems. A new car is designed and rustproofed at the factory along with galvanized metal and it will not rust out prematurely. My brother has a body shop (and I worked with cars about 40 years before I retired) and I think undercoating has caused more problems than it solved (in recent years). We have seen water leaks on warranty claims that were caused by stopped up drains due to undercoating.
