Hi, I have just bought a 1978 Ford F250 Ranger XLT and I plan on keeping this truck for along time... the downer is it doesn't have AC. How difficult or how much would it cost to have someone change it over to have AC? I would appreciate some dollar amounts doing it myself with all new parts or dollar amounts to have a professional do it. Thanks for the help... always appreciated.
You should change the dash for the air conditioning registers. You will also need the ducting, compressor, core, dog house etc... and engine brackets. Your best bet would be to find a donor truck or hit a pick and pull wrecking yard for all the parts.
rutang, got a 79' and when I first bought it , didn't have AC either. Went the route of purchasing a new system from an oufit in Arizona called Arizona Mobile Air. Was a complete system and cost around $800. I know a little pricey, but at least this way I had piece of mind everything was new. Install was a couple of weekends and only had to take to shop to bubble crimp a few hoses and have system charged. Good luck with whatever you decide and let us know how it goes
Classicmetalman do you know what the item number of your kit was? I am trying to locate it on their website. Do you have any pictures of it under your hood? Inside the cab? How long did it take to install? Did it use the original venting system that the factory used for its air vents or was it one of those retrofit designs? What did you think of the overall quality? Does it blow really cold?
Thanks.
