I know they took away pilot injection in the '03 models due to problems with the c94 injectors. what i want to know is now that my 06 and the 05 and most 04's have the c95 injectors, if i get a sct for the pilot injection, is it going to run fine since i have the better injectors or is there a possibility for problems? Eric and Vic your input is always welcome, and anybody else with ANY usefull insight or personal experiance.
The C95 showed up in April 2003 build trucks and the pilot injection was not removed from production engines until October 2003. Pilot injection was as big an issue with the C95 as the C94's and their predecessor.

I was kinda wondering the same thing myself. I have the 04 and have no injector issues, but I sure miss that quiet idle. I wonder if the pilot injection could be mixed with a high performance custom tune from one of their dealers and what the c95 injector results would be. I had an 03 that purrrrrrred for the relatively short time I had it--ran like a rocket too--til the first dreaded reflash
No Tim, what we're talking about can be found on the SCT forums website. They've got a pilot injection program running in a "beta" version in several trucks across the country that's supposed to be released in the near future. That's what prompted our discussion. Evidently there's been lots of discussion behind the scene's about what was obviously a very popular thing--quiet diesels--LOL.
PSD,
Do you know why pilot injection caused a problem to start with? It seems like a great idea. I wonder why Ford didn't try to fix it instead of turning it off?
it wasnt so much the pilot injection it was the ford programming. the sct venders that offer the pilot injection have got all the bugs out and works great. and it does not shut off at 800 rpm it shots off at 2500 rpm or were in the rpm band YOU choose it to.
i have to disagree ford did not offer as an option for pilot injection there fore it cant be said that they made a tune for every one. pilot injection was standard and the soft ware was more problem then the replacement of the c94 injectors. thats why it is not running on current models.but can be turned on with the sct. not to mention there are lots of different pcm codes and flashes. so you realy cant say ford made A tune for every one.
Guess i really opened a can of worms about fords initial programming huh?
thanks for the input psd60lfx4, my understanding in the large diesel engines is that pilot injection increases both cumbustion temp and effective compression ratio when as psd60 said can be run higher than idlle, leading to both a quieter engine and moor importatly in my concern added efficiency and power.
PSD i know you have mentioned considerable other mods and with all youve got im not sure if you would notice a power and efficiency increase or not but if yourself or anyone else has, thats my main objective.
Nope ....no can of worms here, we are all learning and that is great
so you really can’t say ford made A tune for every one.
I will and I did.... they made a truck for the masses and that is what and how I mean it
not to mention there are lots of different pcm codes and flashes.
Called progress, they learn they change that is the way it works, I for one ...very happy they have changed the code and learned from the past, if they did not have different flashes and codes we would all still be running with the codes that had problems….
