Question Need a little help.

My brother just bought a 1998 Concord and it has code problems and will not pass New York state vehicle inspection with lights lit. ie: check engine lite, and 3 others which he didn't explain. I suggested he remove the battery cable to let the computer reset and possibly this will get it for him. I don't know. I'm not there. I'm in KY he's in NY. Any thoughts ??

Thanks

The "disconnect-the-battery" trick is certainly worth a shot, bit if it doesn't work, he's SOL. If the check engine light is on in a 1980-2003 passenger car here in NY, it will not pass state inspection until the problem is fixed. Or until the light goes out (you can interpret that any way you want- I would NEVER suggest that anyone try something illegal or underhanded... ) Current and 1-year-old model-year vehicles are exempt, as well as those 25 years old or older.

Suggest to him to take it to Autozone or the like, and get the codes read for free.

Thanks for any and all info on this subject. He found the EGR valve tube was blocked. Replaced it and all is well.
