c6 Trans ,,,,HELP!!

Gents......

Put your transmisson hats on guys !

1979 4x4 f150.... frame rebuilt,,, reconditioned most everything over the last 9 months,,, except the trans as it was done 3 years ago and has about 10,000 miles.

i put an external fan driven cooler/filter on it,,, left the stock filter off.... also had to " home - weld " a transfer case frame mount....that summarizes my efforts to date,,, now....all of a sudden two "things" have started to happen...

1. when cold, it is slow to go into gear,,, forward or reverse....

2. form a standing start,,, when i moderatly "punch" the throttle, it more or less "pops" outta gear,,, this does not happen unless iam accelerating from a standing start.....

could it be .... vacum modulator or a band adjustment????

ne thoughts would be greatly appreciated ..

Schwee........

Try putting the stock filter back in it, it also acts as a pickup for the fluid. May be sloshing the fluid away from the valvebody without the filter on it.

Good call Jimmy.

Put a new OEM filter back on. Keep your external filter/cooler also since the OEM filter is not much of a filter at all.

Just a one bubbles of air can mess a tranny up. You can also destroy your pump, clutches, and bands.

Thanks for using FTE!
