I had same problem with mine hit a little bump like cattle guard and truck dies. Also noticed that chip was always really warm. Talked to guy I bought chip from and he said to use a pick and bend the tabs on chip for tighter fit.
My problem was usually aggravated by hitting a bump in the road too. We would hold our breath every time we hit one.
I contacted Banks technical support and they told me to gently clean the contacts on the ECU with a 3M miracle cloth and then spray the chip and the ECU with contact cleaner. They also wanted me to tape the chip in place. This was something that had never been done before but makes sense to me. We made the necessary corrections and took the truck for a spin. It runs like it's on steroids with the chip. I've got my fingers crossed.
If this doesn't work, I'm to return the chip to Banks (authorization required). The chip has a 2 year warranty and I've still got about 7 months remaining. They'll check it out and make sure it's not malfunctioning.
I would try to replace the cam sensor first, there not to expensive.Thats what hapened to me when mine had that problem. If would shut off with out notice, then restart with any problems.
I too had the tape on the chip but it still would short out. Hope it works out for you, I miss the chip but programer hasn't let me down yet except in the zoom department. But it's not worth the wrath of the admiral telling me how dangerous it is to be dead in the water in #2 lane of 405 frw with all going by at 70mph.
