Confused over a rough start
My brother has a 1990 Buick Skylark, has 104,000 miles on it. It's his first car and he just got it not long ago from a family friend. It only cost him $800 and it a good little running car. It is very obvious that the woman who owned it before did not take care of the car. So far we have put in new engine mounts, new plugs & wires, new oxygen sensor, new oil & oil filter, new air filter, new valve cover gasket.
The Oxygen Sensor is what the whole problem stems around. The car has had a rough idle since we got it and have slowly been making it much better. Last weekend we put in a new Oxygen Sensor and when the car is going down the highway is as smooth as a new car. The problem is when the car is first turned on, for the first 3 - 4 seconds it is really rough. We are really lost with the whole idea of why the Oxygen Sensor would make the car run smoother but at the same time cause it to be really rough for the first few seconds of start up.
Has anyone else ever heard of a problem like this?

I took it up to AutoZone but they said since the car is an early 90's car they can not read the codes in the computer. They said to go to the dealership, I am going to have to call, can just imagine what they would cost to read the computer off of it. I imagine there are probably a million codes now that it realizes I want to fix it.
