ok on my causins tractor which has a 18 hp briggs he is having problems with gas getting in oil, It done it before, I fixed it by only replacing the spark plug, he mowed his yard like 3 times and its doing the same thing, and it wont run like before. Could it be the carburator? The one on it cant be rebuilt becuse its sealed? Should the engine be taken apart to see if something is wrong with maybe the valves or something?
It dont run, it didnt before when It did it, but it worked fine until like a week ago and he checked his oil and could smell gas real bad in it. He has had nothing but problems out of it, its Tractor supply special.
Wolf is right, most likely caused by the float sticking or a bad needle valve not seating properly, allowing the fuel to seep in the carb. An inexpensive rebuild kit should fix your problem.
About the only way excessive gas can get in the crankcase, if thats the problem, is because the carb inlet needle is sticking open.
Go to the B&S Site, and I believe they have answers to most questions. You'll need the engine Model and Type numbers which are stamped into the blower housing.
Thats definitely a sticking or bad needle and seat easy to fix you can repair it with out taking the carb off the motor, take the air cleaner off and lower base carefully take off the rubber breather hose from the base, now looking down from the top of the carb there are four screws that hold the top part of the carb to the lower part take those off take the choke cable off (single scew on the side of the top half of the carb) tap on it to seperate the gasket now the float and gasket will be on the top part of the carb lift it up most of the time the gasket will stick right to the top part of the carb now you will be able to see in side the bowl area if there is any dirt in it clean it out most have a drain bolt on the same side where the choke cable mounted turn the top half of the carb over pull the float pin out and needle and blow air through the needle inlet if it a plastic float it might need to be replaced check your needle to see if it has any ware marks like a groove around the tip if it does it will have to be replaced if it has a brass float shake it to see if it has any gas in it if it does replace that also if the float and needle look good and the gasket didn't rip you can put it back together and replace the fuel filter change your oil a couple of times and you should be good to go if you need parts give me the model, type and code numbers and I will give you part #s to order parts most repair shops will stock what you will need hope this was some help
Glenn G&S mower service
I purchased a Husqvarna 21 HP 42 inch cut last year from Lowes. It has 52 hours on it and they had to replace the engine, it kept fouling the plugs. it is a V twin too. Luckly it was under warranty. The service rep said he had 3 service calls for the same thing, and thinks Kohler is the better engine.
Might be the fuel pump diaphragm. If it's one of those mounted on the flywheel shroud, check it. The "vacuum" line doesn't go to the manifold on a lot of them, it goes straight to the crankcase. Worth looking into.
Anyone know what a starter motor would cost for one of these? That's the main thing I need for mine. I keep hearing a hundred bucks, but I can get a starter for a CAR cheaper than that.

If it has a gravity fuel system, it will have a float carb. Which, if the needle sticks open, will allow fuel to drain into the crankcase.
If it has a diaphgram carb, it will have the tank below the carb, so fuel wouldn't freely flow into the crankcase. The diaphgram is used to pull the fuel uphill.
even motors with a diaphragm type fuel pump will dump fuel in to the crankcase if the needle is bad it will syphon fuel out of the tank when it is not running it happens all the time on briggs opposed twin cylinder engines.
