Not sure this belongs here or not but ,I picked up a 86 super cab with a 6.9 ,4x4,auto,with an 8' bed. I was going to put a plow on it ,stopped by a plow place and the guy said the manufacters(spelling)do not recamend putting one on it because of the front axile is'nt rated enough.true or not?somebody must know.if its not any body want to buy a truck?
this is the first time i ever heard of a dealer not wanting to sell something.
he is smoking crack. there have to be hundreds of thousands of early F250 diesel 4X4's out there with snow plows on them.
most likely the problem is that he does not know were to get a kit to fit it, so he said it will not accept one.
I don't think thats the case. I was standing right there while he looked in his spec book/catolog, even before he saw the truck but thats why I posted here I don't want just one guys opinoin........
I have been doing commercial plowing with my 86 regular cab 6.9 4x4 4 speed for 10 years.
Mine even had the DANA 44 IFS in it till this year.
The extended cab should have the DANA 50 IFS in it which is a heavier front end.
I do replace a lot of ball joints, tie rod ends, axle shaft U joints and a couple of stub axles. They seem to last about two years. But I also work my truck very hard the rest of the year as well, so if it is questionable, I replace it.
What kind of plow was it?
I am running a 9' Sno-Way on mine.
I also run a set of Ride Rite air bags. With the plow weight the front springs ride to low to get a good ride.
There are pictures in my gallery.
This year with my new Dana 60 and front springs with extra leaves I do not think I will have any more problems.
