Bushings 101
I have a couple questions:
1) Which bushings should I include? If I go OEM, where can I find a good list of which parts/part numbers? (fordpartsonline.com doesn't help much)
- radius arm
- axle pivot
- leaf spring eye
- shackles
- upper and lower balljoints also?
2) Can I do it myself in the driveway? I'm used to working on car suspensions which are much smaller and lighter (in others I have have plenty of PB Blaster on hand). I have two floor jacks and a 4 jackstands.
Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't bother going OEM, as they're all made by major aftermarket mfrs like TRW, anyway. Exception is the shackle, which is probably OEM replacement of the entire unit only. I went with Moog Problem Solver for the radius arm bushings, upper & lower ball joints & spring eye bushings. Great quality stuff. I went with Energy axle pivot bushings, since the OEM rubber units I removed were beat to ****. I figured urethane would hold up better & doesn't affect ride quality in that application much. It's worked out.
I bought the Moog stuff online thru Auto Parts Giant & the Energy bushings at a local 4x4 shop.
There are many posts regarding the besy way to handle radius arm bushing replacement (drill out rivets or not). I didn't drill the rivets, I did it the hard way, since some have had issues with the replacement bolts loosening up. You'll need a come-along to pull the axle forward to release the arm, if you go the way I did.
While you're in there, may as well replace your anti-sway bar bushings. Easy & cheap.
Hand tools would do it, but having air makes it much quicker. An extra set of hands is worth a six-pack, too. Lastly, get a Haynes manual, if you don't already have one.
Good luck!
