Well, I finally got the truck down off of the jack stands for the first time. Needless to say, I couldn't get the jack out from under it. I had to take a trip to the hardware store to get some fitting so I could put air in the bags. I grabbed a lawn chair and a beer and just stared for about an hour.
Please ignore all the junk in the garage. I'll clean it up someday.
That looks low enough to me. The bags make me jealous. I would love that on mine.
I share your affinity for the "stew and brew" creative technique. Isn't it amazing how much time is spent just imagiing what it will look like when it's done? When it's done, will we miss that?
What is that motor in there? Is that all intake manifold I see on the top? Very cool.
The engine is a '92 5.0 HO EFI which has caused me to consume my share of Advil and many a 6 pack (not at the same time of course).
The distance from the running boards to the ground is just a hair under 1". I can't fit a flat hand under the front edge and the back is just a bit higher.
That's how I like 'em! Where did you get your air ride setup and how much was it? How big is the kit? I am so ready for 'bags, but don't know much about them!
Thanks Sixoh,
The front suspension is a TCI kit that included tubular A-arms, power rack and pinion, swaybar, 11" vented rotors, and bags.
The rear suspension is a hodge-podge that I pieced together.
The 4-link is from S & S Machine.
The bracketry is Air Ride Technologies or custom fabed by me.
The Panhard is Heidts.
The shocks are Pete and Jakes.
The bags are Firestone F9000's.
The swaybar is stock '97 Explorer.
I don't have all the air management junk yet do I have to raise it with my garage compressor. It's a fun set up. I can make go from looking like a 4 x 4 to looking like a lowrider in about 5 seconds.
Very cool!!! I can't wait to take mine off the stands. I'm baggin my 52 with a fatman IFS with bags on the front ( installed) and an art morrison 4 link rear with air springs ( in the mail) I boxed the rails back to the firewall. Did you box them all the way back when you bagged the rear? is that neccesary? I'm thinking I will, if just for asthetics.
I only boxed the frame around the C-notch. The front 4-link mount was right in line with the original front spring mount so I didn't think it was necessary. If all my suspension falls off in the first few miles of my first drive, I'll know I did it wrong.
Keith,
I took some shots of the sway bar but forgot to get them out of my camera. I'll post them soon.

I know that drinking and driving is a terrible thing but I've taken numerous trips(without ever leaving the garage) in my truck with a frosty beverage in hand. I guess this is part of the "stew and brew" process. Sittin' behind the wheel with an arm resting on the door frame dreaming of the day when I'm actually rolling along.
