I went to put the head gaskets on last night and they just dont fit. It appears the gaskets (metal Fel-Pro) leave an edge of the water ports open to the ports that the push rods go thru...oil and water and air shoud'nt mix....right?!
The new fel-pro is #7636
The old gasket seams to be one that had a blue coating on it with the #7999PT
If anyone knows what type the old gaskets is or of the right gasket that is needed I would appreciate the lead.
Went to a local parts shop (not adv. or auto Z.) He looked up the two gasket numbers for me and could'nt even find a listing for the new one that wasnt right...go figure.
Found the old one was a fel-pro as well....He went to the back and came out with a stack of about 2 doz. and asks me "how many you want?".
Turns out they had bought out some old shops inventory years ago.....
The new gaskets match perfectly with the old ones.
I hope this is the end of the head gaskets questions....
