I think I read somewhere the 04 had a place on the fuel tank to hook an external tank. If so where is it located and to hook it up will it use gravity to flow from tank in bed. Would you need a float or check valve to control the flow and keep it from overflowing?
I didn't want to pay the prices for an aftermarket external tank so I built and installed one myself for under $200. I bought a 40 gallon bed mount tank from Tractor Supply and hooked the supply line to the main tank vent and hooked the main tank vent to the bed tank. The only other thing that requires changing is the truck fuel cap. I went to Advance Auto and went through their stock to find a non-vented cap. Now the fuel gravity feeds to the main tank. The overhead computer gets confused but will indicate correctly when the bed tank is empty. If you have any questions or need photos just email me and I will be glad to help. I like the gravity feed because it was cheap and no pumps or valves for murphy to mess with.

I do think about 850....my records are not where I am at now...will try to remember to check when I get home....no matter well worth it IMHO...the good thing about TFF it is legal in all states...something that does matter to me!
Not too shabby. 50-state legal is definitely important, but the 29gal. tank of the short bed sucks for long trips. I can outdrive a full tank before getting tired. 46gal., on the other hand? Don't think I'd have to worry about that. One fuel stop per day.
I already have a 100 gallon aluminum tank that was in my old truck. I thought about selling it especially since it would cost a fortune to ever fill it. I would prefer about a 40 gallon tank. I couldnt decide on what was the best way to install it. When it was in my old truck I just flipped a switch and it switched to it and read the fuel from the sender on it.
I have a RBak roll top cover on this truck and would have to remove it to put in this tank.
Thanks for the input.
Would like to ad an auxiliary fuel tank to my truck. Is there one that the group feels is best? Am leaning towards getting one that is a toolbox and fuel tank that would have a simple hand fuel pump on the top.
