I have about 800 miles on my new 2005 F350 CC lariet and will be taking a 2300 mile(round trip) trip at the end of next week. I will probably have about 1000 miles or a little more on it before we leave for our trip. I won't be pulling anything while on our trip I don't think(maybe a small light trailer on the way back with a few pieces of furniture in it).
My question is, should I have the oil changed before I go, or when I get back.
I would change the oil before the trip, again in about 2000 more miles, and then at what ever you decide is going to be your OCI. The factory fill is probably full of wear metals by now and it would be a good idea to dump it for fresh oil. JMO
I did my first change at 3,000 miles then 6,000 miles.
Yes, wear metals are probably in there... but the oil filter better or should have stoped them!!!
If you have the money and time I would go ahead and do it. There is no down-side to changing it more often... especially the first one or two. If you are doing it yourself... then you really save money!!
I would do it since you must really care about the truck... or you would not have asked for our opinion. The factory fill is rumored to be 10W-30 weight oil and on the thin side... get it out and put in a high quality 15W-40 (CI4+ rated) oil and you will be fine... especially with the high temps right now.
