Stalling when hot
After new motor (short block) installed (by Ford) had stumbling, stalling problem when starting after motor being turned off for about 5-15 minutes.
If I let it idle for a minute - no problem. Otherwise when I put it in drive it stumbles and stalls unless I put foot on brake and baby the throttle. They said it was throttle body and charged me a couple hundred bucks to clean injectors, etc. Very little improvement. Hasn't changed since 7000 mi, 18 months.
1.. NEVER did this prior to new motor.
2.. Truck runs fine, good power, always easy starting (except stalling above), good mileage. Never misfires, floods, etc. Never cranks more than a few revs.
3.. Possibles: IAC/throttle body/linkage sticking initially when hot due to temp buildup after motor is off, battery heat soak although it ALWAYS starts fine, idles fine.
Any ideas ??

Keep us posted. Have a few other ideas - we have 30 of these things same as yours.

I got a vac/pressure gauge yesterday and will connect so I can monitor from cab.
Problem is it is so consistent that a dirty or leaky whatever would seem to be more intermittent and not so specific to temp.
Looked in Autozone for throttle body cleaner, etc - all I saw was disc brake & carburetor cleaner. I think I have read where you should NOT use those on sensors, IAC, throt body, etc. ????
Will keep trying,
Bill
There is also a product by Seafoam called Deep Creep in aerosol, that, IMHO, also works very well.

1. Update: connected vac gauge. Reads 20 in at idle (550 rpm), 15 at idle in drive.
After running up to op temp then shutting down, wait about a minute. Put emerg brake on (so brake vac doesn't affect reading). Start with no throttle - about 20 in - idles fine - put into drive, vac drops to about 5, stumbles almost stalls, then recovers, idles fine 15 in. Put in neutral, 20 in, put in drive - same thing only not quite as bad. repeat sequence third time, everything normal. Did this several times after running a little while - same results. Seems the longer I let it idle before putting in drive the less
the problem occurs.
2. Now - where is the "MAF" on my ranger and what does it look like?
Thanks,
Bill
