Wow, I just saw the new 06 Dodge 3500 trucks and I am appalled at their appearance!<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
I almost bought a new 05 Dodge but I didn't care for the big round pig nose snout front end. But now, good golly, they made the full size trucks look just like the new Durango/Dakotas. Yuk! They use squared off corners and made everything very angular. <o></o>
This design was taken from the "MaxiCab" mini van/pickup hybrid (design not engine) that appeared several years ago as a concept vehicle at the big manufacturer car shows. It was a hideous failure and the public rejected it. I don't know what their smoking at Chrysler's Pacifica design center in Carlsbad, CA but I think they have totally lost all connection with reality. They must have come from the same automotive design school as those who designed the Pontiac Aztec. It was so ugly dealers almost had to give them away to get them off their lots! My 05 Ford F250 looks like a real truck, the new dodge looks like a bad scifi move prop.
I like their 02-05 Look, but if they changed to the dakota look in 06, they are ugly. 'Course, the 05+ F-250, 350 are the sharpest lookin trucks around.
That's the Power Wagon. It has a different bumper than the regular truck. Also, in that view you can't appreciate the real uglyness of the beast. Look at it head on, if you dare!
Well, I don't think it is all that bad. IMHO it's not as nice as the 94-2000? style, but not Pontiac Asstek ugly either. From that view it looks like a supersized Dakota. At least they didn't go with the Durango look, that thing is ugly. From the first time I saw one I was waiting for it to grow on me, but it just never did.
Ouch!!! The bumper looks as bad as the one on a GMC.
I don't know. I don't think that the new style bumpers on the GMC's are all that bad. (old ones have plastic at top and chrome at the bottom, new ones have chrome at top and plastic on botton) But the old ones are kinda ugly.
The front still looks better than the current chevy front, IMO.
Well, all I'll say is you need to see other variations to be able to make a complete opinion on it. Don't get me all wrong here, I do not like it as much as I like the 02-05's, but it's not that bad really. Color and cab configuration change appearances alot.
That red mega cab in that link looks kinda hideous to me, but I've seen some mineral grey colored quad cab duallys which actually look pretty sharp in comparision to that.
Also the bumpers on the duallys I've seen are full chrome - not anything like whats in that picture.
Still the 05'/06' SD is THE BEST looking truck on the road, but that may not last long, we won't have much room for finger pointing at GM/Dodge about ugliness if Ford insists on going to the full blown Tonka concept in 07' - I will not own anything that looks THAT hideous.
