I have a 2002 F-250 XLT 4x4 with the 5.4 V-8, with 42k. My transmission just went bad. I took it to the dealer and they told me they could probably get Ford to pay for some of the repairs. They said the most I would have to pay is $1000 and Ford would pick up the rest. I feel I am justified in asking Ford to pay for all of it (A F250 with a tow package should not go out at 42k).
My questions are...
1. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this payed for by Ford?
2. Or should I just count my blessings and pay the $1000?
It looks like I am the only one with this early trans. problem. I thought someone might have dealt with Ford on an issue like this and could shed some light on it for me. But, It's looking like it's not a wide spread problem. This is my 4th Ford and I was happy up until now. Hopefully this is a isolated incident and Ford will take care of me.
PS...Mr. Lamkin, thanks for the welcoming. I have already read the Guidelines, did I do or say something wrong? Im sorry if I did. I'm a newbee.
My 02 F250 V10 (4r100) wne tout at 23,519 miles! Warranty wasn't an issue since I was well within time & mileage. This would have been about a $3000 fix if I had to pay out of pocket. I agree with the others, if Ford is willing to help; feel fortunate!!
A rebuilt 4r100 is on eBay right now for $1095, including torque converter!!
Had a tranny go out at 38k on a 02PSD called Ford (main customer service) and they worked a deal with the dealership... I had to buy the extended warranty, about $400 or $500, and that covered the repair. Seems like the best way to go if they will play ball with you.
I bought a used 02 F-350 Lariat 4x4 back in May, along with a Ford ESP extended warranty, THANK GOD I got the warranty
within 1 week, my truck's O/D light started flashing
I took it in, they diagnosed it as a bad T/C lockup and replaced the T/C
I paid the $100 deductible and got the truck back.
After 1 week, the O/D light came back on, tranny trouble code and the dealership diagnosed it having bad solenoids and replaced them and the valve body, cost me $0
I paid $2000 for the warranty, good for 24 months, 24000 miles
I have since installed the Mag Hytec 4R100 tranny pan and will add a newer B&M cooler as well and a tranny temp gauge
good luck!!
Thanks for the repleys. m21221, I might go that route. I have stuck with Ford because they have been built well and ran great for me in the past. I'm hoping I can tell all my Chevy friends that are saying "I told you so", that ford took care of me.
