Front to Back

I am about to go and have my Ford 9 " built up in the next month or two. I wanted to upgrade the rear axles to a newer lug pattern that way I would have more of a choice for wheels, but I dont want the front/back to be different. I know I want a Fatman Fab. Mustang II Front end, and I am curious if that would also upgrade the lug pattern to the Mustang patern? Anyone know of the top of there head? If not I could always call them.

Thanks for any info.

Mac

Mac, I don't quite understand your post, I got the more choice of wheels, but the "have my Ford 9 " built up" and "I want a Fatman Fab. Mustang II Front end" and "upgrade the lug pattern to the Mustang patern"

I don't see any upgrade in anything you referred to. Check for wheel bolt patterns for 5 on 5 1/2. The Ford 9" is tuff as nails, and the II front end for I-beam replacement is a down grade. IMHO

I guess it does sound more confusing now.

Basically I am starting to rebuild my ford truck and I wanted to change my lug pattern to something more common. To tell you the truth Im not sure what my lug pattern is to tell you the truth. And is the Fatman Fab. really that bad?

the back is easy to get redrilled for a smaller pattern but the front is a little more involved. you have to get the center hub section turned down enough to get a passenger car style wheel on. a local custom machine shop here is doing mine for 140. pricey but its what i need to get the wheels im using on.

The MII discs are 5 on 4-1/2" centers, which is pretty common. I think some Chrysler products are the same, too. The trick is finding a 9" rear with that pattern. I got one out of a Granada at the junk-yard, but they're rare.

Mac, The 5 on 5 /12" bolt pattern was used on Ford pickups from back in the 50s to 96, as well as some jeeps and I don't know what else. Start looking in the catalogs and online for wheels with 5 on 5 1/2" lug patterns.

Fatman upgrades for pre 65 trucks can be an upgrade. What are you wanting to do by installing one?

Are you looking to change bolt patterns from 5-on-5.5 to 5-on-4.5? Front and back?

I guess I didnt realize how common the wheel pattern, just seemed when ever I went to a wheel store and told the year and such it was so limited. Im still pretty niave to a lot of things about this truck. Starting to learn. Now that I know that, I will just use a 95 or 96 Ford Truck for my searches now. Thanks for the help!

I was looking at the Fatman Fab for just an upgrade w/ better ride, and cause I was thinking about airbags and such. But if the MII changes the lug pattern up front then maybe Ill look elsewhere. Dont need to have two different and I dont want to use Passenger Rims unless I have too, not that there is much difference, just more options for truck rims in the size I want for the rear ( 18x10 )

1 hold up I know about is if you have disk brakes you can't run drum wheels the calipers will hit

If the calipers are hitting then you had to have gone to a smaller rim. Rims are not different for drum brake systems verses disk brake setups. you will need to measure the radius from the center of the hub to the ouside of the caliper multiply by 2 and add at least another inch or two to the final figure to determine the smallest rim you can use.

The Dodge Ram 1500 has the 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern as well, up to current year I believe. I'm sure there is a lot of custom wheels out there for late model Dodge trucks that would look good on an old Ford. I don't know if the hubs are different though. I do know I had 15 inch Dodge rims with new tires on them, that I put on my 73 Jeep Wagoneer. Then I cleaned up the 73 Jeep wheels and painted them white, put new tires on them, and put them on the 69 F-100. The only problem I have had so far is that the Ford truck "dog dish" hubcaps do not snap into place on the Jeep rim.
