For what ever reason my 53 F-250 has recently decided not to start right up. It used to start cold or hot with no problem what so ever. Lately I have to crank and crank to get it to start. I have replaced, points, rotor, cap & coil. Still starts hard. Dumped the sediment bowl and the it fills ok. If I dump a bit of gasoline in the carb it takes right off. Could it be time to do a rebuild on the carb? It seems to run fine once it starts.
I would guess it is the pump causing you the problems.
Giving you enough gas to fill the bowl but not enough pressure to meet the demand of the carburetor. After that ...rebuild the carb.
