Ive washed my motor many times... but this time i got something wet and the truck is idling all messed up. Im always careful about not getting the intake, plugs, cops, wet...and Ive always been fine...not this time. The truck starts right up, but it wont idle... it idles around 200-300 and stalls. If I give it gas, it runs fine, and drives fine, its not missing or sputtering as long as i give it gas, so I dont think its anything to do with plugs or cops. I let it dry in the sun all day yestrday, thinking that would fix it, no luck. I got out my flash tuner, and adjusted the idle to 750, and when i started it after the tune, it was fine, idling at 750, running perfect, so i thought i was all set. Came out this morning to go to work and it started right up, but went back to idling at 300 and trying to stall. During driving and accelerating its totally fine, in neutral or park, it idles like crap and wants to stall. Any ideas on what to check? Could it have anything to do with intake? the MAF? It has something to do with amount of air or fuel its getting... Im not sure what to try or check next....
Well, first off, Year, mileage and size motor would help a bit more. But anyway, check the DPFE unit just off the drivers side of the throttle body. Not knowing your year, it should be a playing card sized unit about 5/16" thick with 2 vacuum lines going to it. If its an original with the pot metal case, it will corrode and build up restricting the vacuum. Just replace it if that's the prob, .....the replacement is plastic.
I agree with the IAC, classic symtoms: won't idle unless you give it some gas. The IAC is on the back of the throttle body, round cylinder with an electrical connection. The washing proabably didn't have anything to do with it, just coincidence.
im not picking up any codes, would a bad IAC throw a code? I just did a bunch of reading and from what people describe about a bad IAC its exactly what Im experiencing... gonna put a new one in tonight and hopefully its fixes the prob.
thanks all.
