I just had to say something about how well my Prodigy performed during the maiden voyage this past week. The trip was probably about 525 miles round trip. My loaded truck probably weighed in at around 8500 lb and the loaded camper probably around 7500 lb. This was my first time using electric trailer brakes as well. I can't believe how well this thing works. I have absolutely no experience with any other controller, but I really don't see a reason to search for such experience. I set the Prodigy on 6.0 and the boost on 2, except in heavy traffic where I used the #3 boost setting. I was entirely happy, but I did think about setting the power a little higher. I will experiment with it some as I use it more. Right before I left on the trip, a fellow whose opinion a value alot told me that he didn't like the Prodigy, so I was a little worried. However, after using it, you can mark me down as totally satisfied. With the controller, that is.........
Over the years, I've used 4 different controllers from 2 companies and the Prodigy is definitely the best. BTW, did that fellow say why he didn't like the Prodigy?
Hmmmm....seems I recall that he mentioned preferring the Voyager. Said he couldn't get the Prodigy adjusted to suit him. Don't remember too many details. Maybe some other box is better, but I'll stick with the one I have.........
From what I've seen posted here, the BrakeSmart is also an excellent controller. My only concern would be mounting one on a new truck; you have to tap into the master cylinder, so that might cause a warranty hassle down the road if you have a brake-related failure and the dealer wants to get picky.
RedTaurus94, glad to hear you had a safe trip. As for the prodigy, I'd pull a 28ft. enclosed trailer all over the midwest with no problems. The only problems I had was forgetting to turn it down when trailer was empty. That first stop sign down the street usually reminded me though.
