Never heard this before

What size tires were installed on these trucks and why the variations. My 98 4.6 has 255/70/r16 tires while Ive been told a 99 4.2 has 235/70/r16 factory? The same guy said you could order a truck and specify a more aggressive factory tune(he did)? Also been told that there was a "factory chip"that could be ordered as well?Any truth to this because it's the first Ive heard of it.
cheers

never heard of a factory chip. As for the tires I THINK the smaller tires came on the base level trucks. My 97 XL came w/ the 235s.

ON EDIT: Just noticed your user name, I guess my theory is out the window.

from what I have seen there are many vriations for the tires they all work. whether they are one size to the next it can be the same. it depends onthe siize of the itre and and rim. to prooof apint og to, opps it's on the other cpu. but depending on the size of rim and sidewall of the tyer you could have the same hieght as a 15 to a 16 or 17 or 3v3n a 20 minch. the bigger the rim the less the side wall is a rule of thumb.

clear any thing up???

sorry late night and fumble fingers.

what I was saying was that you could have a 15 inch rim with a high side wall tire and it would be the same diameter as a 17 in rim with a lower side wall. There is a tire calulater that you imput the rim and tire size of both of the different tires and it will tell you the diameter of both and what the differnce is. The link is on my work computer so I don't have it here. I will do a search and see what I come up with though.

there are chips you can get on this web site to get a better or different tune for your truck do a serach and you will find it. You have to remember the factory tuned this to do the best all around for the truck. by re tunning the trk you may loose torque or gas milage ect. Mine runs fine the way it is.

Good Luck

did a quick search didn't find the calulator, but at the top of this forum is the thread about tire sizes (should be very help for to you, and the next thread down is the about the predator and howit affect the truck when the chip is installed.

Hope this helps

I had a 2000 XL with 255's/16" wheels, my 2002 XLT has 235's/16" wheels.
The 4x4's usually run a taller tire than the 4x2's.

Never heard of a "factory chip", maybe he was talking about a Lighting?!

There is no such thing as a factory chip if you are talking about it being simular to a superchip, maybe what the fella was talking about taking the whole pcm unit to get reflashedwith a different code.

Maybe what they are talking about with a factory chip is the programming the factory can do to adjust you speedometer for different tire sizes. Also, from the factory you can order different tire sizes. When my brother-in-law and I had Super Duties, we learned that. We both had V10 F250 XLT's. His came with 265/75R16's, mine came with 235/85R16's, and our door stickers matched our tire sizes. When you order a truck, it all comes down to what you want.
