low pressure port

i am about to recharge my AC and i need to know where the low pressure port is where you charge the freon, i think it might be on a hose that comes from the compressor and looks like it goes by the radiator or somewhere near it.

Yo! turdbird, (I love that name!!) The Low pressure port is near the passenger firewall, and it should be on a pipe that is coming right out of the blower box that holds the fan and evaporator. It will be right next to the pill-shaped accumulator(dryer). If you have a 95 I hope it is fitted for R134a and has the quick disconnect fitting. I would also hope the cap is still there and is colored blue.

The other port, which you need to stay away from(250psi!!!!!!!!!!! DANGER, WILL ROBINSON!!!) is on the drivers side up toward the radiator and AC condensor and should have a red cap. If you try to charge your system via the the high pressure port you may end up with a hand full of shrapnel from an exploded can of freon, although I would think the fitiing will not attach there. The low and high side ports should have different size valves.

thank god you told me, i thought that was the low pressure side, and it does not have a red cap, just a black screw on/off cap

The cap color isn't critical. When you charge it up, and notice that the compressor clutch is engagaing and some cold air is coming thru. Shut off the engine and carefully listen for any gas escaping. You will hear some hissing just after the engine is stopped, that is the sound of the low and high side equalizing. But if the hissing continues for more than 20 seconds find out where the leak is. No sense in filling the system if there is a big leak in one of the hose fittings or a hole in the condensor. Good luck, I hope she holds a charge.

well, it didnt work, i have an idea that the clutch isnt activating, im going to try directly connecting it to the battery, that way it will tell if its wiring or not.
