I have a 86 f-350 with a c6 3speed auto tranny,6.9 diesel, and the fuel cost is killing me. I want to swap out the tranny and rears. I was thinking about a AOD tranny and moving from a 4.10 to a 3.55 in the rear. I dont do much towing and when I do it is a car to the car show, a horse trailer, or my pontoon to the lake. give me some input and if possible a place to find which trucks have these items in them so I can get them from the salvage yard. I dont want to give up the duals on the rear.

The only automatic overdrive for a diesel is computer controlled= $$$$$ switching out to a different rear end, takes away towing capacity.
Why not make some home brew Bio Diesel? You can get started for 100-200 bucks, and average cost per gallon is around 65cents.
Cheaper and easier.
