wasn't sure where to put this but i thought body section would do best. i am trying to replace a window reg on my rear passenger side window on my 96 F350 crew cab PSD. all the teeth are stripped and the window wont roll up anymore. my question is i am not sure how to pull the door handle mechanism and all off. it looks like some funky rivet ford used. anyone ever pulled them out? how'd ya do it and can i just use bolts to snap everything back together or do i need to go back to ford and get the funky lil rivets?
Well im not sure exactly what door handle ur pullin off, but you can use nuts/bolts to put stuff back together, long as you can get to the backside, i might recomend using some blue thread lock to keep it from loosening and you having to pull door panel to re tighten.. have Fun!
done this several times on my 93 f series. You will need to drill out the rivets to remove the regulator and use clip nut and bolts to reinstall (inless you want to re-rivet). If you have electric windows like mine the "plastic drive cam" (behind the sheetmetal plate on the regulator) will likely be in broken in several pieces. This cam connects the inner drive to the outer gear. Once broken, it is allowing the gear to slip causing the window to not go up. I just took the old part out and poured some epoxy in the cavity and has worked great ever since! I believe you can also find the replacement cam on the web now. Back when I fixed mine, you had to buy the whole regulator ($125.00).
cool thanx man. so is drilling the rivets out the best way or think it would be easier to grind? you've done this before and i haven't so i'm trying to get all the info i can! i will not be re-riveting if i dont have to i was just making sure ford didn't have a special purpose for the rivets and not bolts. yea i have electric windows but the teeth on the actual regulator gear are stripped. when i pull the door panel off i can very easily see it. i have the part ($119 from Ford ) just gotta get it in.
