My 96 dually has just recently started to have a brake problem. Intermittently it will feel like the truck is not running when you push the brakes. The pedal is real hard. I was thinking vacuum booster. I was also told we have a vacuum pump that could be the culprit. Let me know what yall think.
Sounds like your vacuum pump to me. Just put one on a 97 psd. Not tough at all, just need to heve the olp pulley removed and pressed on the new one. Good luck!
Don't know if this is the case but on most vecheals if you don't also replace the mastercylinder than they won't warranty the new Booster. What usually makes the booster go bad is the MC leaks brake fluid into the pb causing the seals to go bad.
Itfox, That pump is right there next to the A/C compressor, right? If you are standing at the grill looking at the engine, it would be on the right hand side below the A/C compressor? From what I could tell it's just two bolts and a hose. Is that right? How long did it take you to change it? Thanks for your help.
Your right. Their is three bolts. If you don't have a puller to remove the pulley, take it off and take it with ya to get a new one and most parts houses can pull it and put it on the new one for ya. I pulled it off in a matter of minutes but had to wait till the next day to replace it cause I did'nt have a puller. I think a new one was about 115 bucks after returning the core. Good luck
Itfox,
You were right. That was really easy. I had it off and the new one on in about 20 minutes. Since I already had all the nessisary tools like the puller, it made it easy. Hell it took longer to wrestle the belt back on. But thanks for your help. And it did fix the brake problem.
