04 Lariat Crew 4X4

I’m looking at a 2004 Lariat Super Crew 4X4, loaded. Appears to have about every option except DVD and sunroof. Has less than 11K miles. The truck is at a dealership, not a Ford dealer though.

They are asking $27K. Invoice on a similarly equipped ’05 is over 35K. The truck appears to be in showroom condition. What would be a reasonable price to offer for this truck? The dealership did a safety inspection in May, so I assume they have had it at least that long. Obviously I will want to negotiate a lower price, if possible. I realize this will be a 2 year model in a month.

Also, how can I go about getting the service history on this truck with the VIN?

I think you can get VERY CLOSE to that price if you get brand new truck with Ford's special discount plus rebates.

Go check with Ford first.

most important is to take a ride test- be sure theres no vibs, shaking steering wheel at 45-70mph...take a test driuive on highway too.

HTH!

I have to agree. I bought an '05 Lariat 4X4 similarly equipped (EVERYTHING except DVD and Moonroof) in March for just a hair over 33K (listed over 40K). Ford is really trying hard to deal now. Go to multiple dealers if you can. Many specialize in moving certain models or have incentives to move a particular model. Find one that wants to sell you your truck.

Thanks for the replies so far.

A similarly equipped ’05 would run about 33K with the current incentives. There aren’t many to choose from locally. I am paying cash without a trade so saving $6-8K is fairly significant.

Also, is the ’04 5.4 engine a 3 valve like the ’05.

Well the discription you mention is pretty much my truck. I paid just under 30K new. I would say that it would need to be around 25k, or I would just by new. The best way to purchase low miles new trucks like this would be private sale. That way you would still have a warrantied truck (through Manufacturer), and not be paying sales tax on the purchase. It would actually put you ahead of where I am having purchased that same truck at 30k new.

Another point about the vibe. Make sure that this truck wasnt traded in because of it. I know many people including myself who have traded their trucks in for newer models, many with low miles.

I set up a gallery with pictures of the truck if anyone cares to look.

I was able to do a little research and find out the '04 5.4 is a 3 valve engine.
