Okay my wife’s vehicle is a 2004 5.4L V8 Eddie Bauer 2X2 Expedition with <17K miles. Yesterday she was driving backup home from Corpus Christi and she makes it to the first gas station just out of town and after filling up the truck will not run over 40 mph or go in reverse. I talk her through a couple of things none of which work so I called 1-800-DOA-FORD and they showed up within an hour and towed her to the nearest dealership. Which I think was a very reasonable response time.
Of course it is after hours by the time the vehicle arrived at the dealership but they got right on it this morning. The service writer just called me and the transmission is shot. They are not exactly sure just yet what the problem is but its looking like a major overhaul or replacement.
My questions are…
1) Has anyone out there experience similar transmission problems?
2) Is there a known issue with these transmissions?
I’m a diehard Ford man, but for a transmission to go out with less then 20K miles really bothers me. I mean I have 100K on my 2001 5.4L V8 Lariat F150 Supercrew and it has never been in the shop for repairs.
Not being a smart***, but it sounds like a friday vehicle, its cheaper under warranty so be happy there. See if they'll replace it, its quicker and you'll be more assured.
...albeit my tranny guy loves Expy trannies. He rebuilds a ton of them, he finally got mine at 342,000 and only because the torque converter let go its guts into the pump.
