wow cool . . . does this help used buyers too? so this is like the MLS for real estate huh?
how do you access it? is that what ive seen at forddirect.com or whatever that site was?
is it just for like inventory or does it have prices where you cn find cheaper ones??

no, no, no...it's on the dealer site, and generally used by service writers to establish warranty periods, see prior warranty service work, outstanding recalls, etc. It doesn't tell you anything about used inventory- just service and claims history. GM has the same thing, called VISS

There's no big secret about OASIS (or GM's VISS). The manufacturers maintain a database of the products that are already built. When a car rolls into the service department (or gets traded in- if a dealer's got his duckies in a row), they run the VIN through the database. It tells them, among other things:
1) When and where it was delivered
2) How many owners
3) Extended warranty (ESP or GMPP only)
4) Number and type of warranty claims
5) Salvage or total status (they don't warranty a car after that happens)
6) Status of any recalls or campaigns on the vehicle
GM's database carries a bit more info (they're waaay ahead on the tech side- in just about everything). You can also find the original built sheet (for parts ordering), name of original owner, type of delivery (retail/fleet), etc.
