Help!! Noticed the other day that I have no brake lights. I checked the fuse--good. I replaced all brake bulbs, same problem. My turn signals work, my running lights work, my hazard lights work, but no brake lights. Any help is greatly appreciated.
The high mount light does not work. It shifts and drives normally. After posting my problem I did notice that it could be a couple of problems such as th MFS or the pedal switch. This weekend I am going to get out there with my multimeter and check some voltages. Thanks for the reply. I will let you know the results. Do you know the approximate cost of both components?
I had a problem with no brake lights also. The problem was the stop light switch that works off of the brake pedal. It was fairly easy to fix. The hardest thing that I remember was getting up underneath the dash to get to the switch. Follow the brake pedal up and you should see a small black box that has a swich that senses when the brake pedal is engaged. You'll have to remove the wiring harness that is attached to it. I remember that it was kind of hard to remove the wiring harness. May have to use a screwdriver to work it loose. The part was less than $15 at the Ford dealer. The brake pedal will swing loose when you get the switch off but that is ok. I think there is a spring clip or cotter key that keeps the swich on. Keep track of any small parts when removing the switch and just reverse the order of how you removed them to put every back.

Well, picked up the brake pedal switch from a Ford dealer yesterday and replaced it. Good news, it works. There are no tools needed to replace it. I simply removed the harness from the switch. There is also a cable guide mounted to the switch, I removed that as well. Then there is a yellow cotter like pin the holds the switch to the pedal. Then pull the switch assembly away from the pedal. The only thing I can advise is remember the orientation of the switch. There is a bushing that goes on the shaft that goes to the master cylinder. Keep the bushing in place, slide the new switch over the bushing and rod assembly, and reattach to the brake pedal. Replaced the cotter pin, plug in the harness, and you should now have brake lights. I proceeded to take apart the old switch and found that there is a contact in the switch that burns out. Switch mechanically works but, the conacts never meet. Thanks to all who helped and replied to this post. This is such a great site. Who needs repair manuals when you have these wonderful people.
