Pow Steer box seal replacement
I've got a '77 F250 4x4 with a leaking ps gearbox. It's the seal that connects to the steering wheel shaft. Is there a way to replace that seal without pulling the entire box? I am resourceful, and can "improvise". Ie, I'm not affraid to do unorthadox things. Afterall, this truck has been used for target practice and had large objects fall on it. Nevertheless, I still love this truck enough to treat it like a king. It has done remarkable things for me. Ok, I'll shut up.
Actually, I have a 83 E350 that had that seal leaking so bad it would dump out all of the fluid over night. I refilled the steering unit with a whole bottle of transmission seal conditioner and topped it off with regular fluid and no leaks since. It has been 6 months and everything works perfectly. I wish I could tell you what brand the seal conditioner was but I tossed the bottle in the dumpster. I bought it at Oreilley.
I prefer granite but limestone will work in a pinch!
Thanks for using FTE!
