An old geezer told me once b4 diesels became the in thing, everything had a small V8 with a ton of gears.. look at the old Ford F600s.. He said you had to keep shifting and splitting the rear to get going...

Ford did a good job of gearing in '55 I might add. We have an old F700 with a smaller V8, like a 317 or something, but the thing has a 5spd stick, and another stick that has three ranges, U - D - O
That truck isn't any race-car I'd say top speed is 55, and with a load, roughtly 50,000lbs total weight the truck will get up to that speed in a lil over a half mile.
