Someone gave me a new unopened bottle of Pennzoil boat motor/ general purpose Premium 2cycle oil.The bottle said it can be used in Weedeaters, outboards, chain saws & any 2 cyle air cooled engine. Can I use it in my Weedeater? My Weedeater says not to use outboard motor oil. Anyone use this gen purpose oil in their Weedeater or Poulan?
as long as you have the proper mix ratio i doubt you would have any problems, i know there used to be a rating called "TCW" for any water-cooled engine (like a outboard) it stands for two-cycle water cooled. think it has someting to do with ash content, but im no oil expert, just get some on my hands once in a while
Some engines are more picky about oils than others. I have a weedeater that will immediately foul sparkplugs unless I use the special oil from the lawnmower shop. On the other hand, my gardener uses 76 Custom motor oil from the 99 cent store in his chainsaws with no problem other than a little extra smoke.
I am a huge fan of Bel-Ray two stroke products...... but I wouldnt worry about any of the stuff your using. If it worries you....maybe mix it with your normal two stroke oil. Im sure that would displace any concerns of harming your weed eater.
Dont tell anyone, but I actually use a SuperTech product... I use the SuperTech 2 stroke oil for my chain saws.
I have used any, and every, two stroke oil in all manner of two cycle engines.
Never had a problem with any oil in any engine.
There might be a difference in them, but I have never seen it matter in any of my applications.
BTW, I have used Super Tech in both Outboard motor applications and lawn equipment applications. Worked fine for me too.
I am picky about 2 cycle oil. I use the OEM just to be sure. Evinrude oil for the boat and stihl oil for the chainsaw. I have had experience with outboard type oils clogging up the muffler in weed eaters. The Pennzoil you have is great for outboards, but I would recommend against it in the weed eater. Small air cooled engines actually like to be run more. If it doesn't get a lot of use all the more reason to use an oil designed specifically for air cooled engines to prevent carbon buildup.
My Grampa used to own a small engine shop and he says that homelite 2 cycle oil was the best but husqvarna is the same. He also taught at the vocational school here and one complete night was on oils and lubrication.
