dead 300-6
I'm working on a Ford 300-6 industrial engine on a generator set. This thing won't start, period. It has good blue spark at the output of the coil and at the plugs. The distributor is turning. I compared the plug wiring with the 300 in my truck and all the plug wires are in the right place. It has a natural gas fuel system. I cannot get even a pop out of this engine with starting fluid. I have manipulated all the throttle linkage, etc. while cranking and nothing. I even turned off the gas feed to it to see if it was too rich somehow. Nothing. I'm about convinced that it must have some kind of internal damage somehow, but it seems unlikely since these engines are so bulletproof, and the distributor is turning, so the cam gears must be intact. You would think that even if the timing was off somehow it would at least pop or backfire. It just evenly cranks, and cranks, and cranks. Any thoughts before I tell the owner to buy a new one? Brian
Pull the cap and see if at TDC#1 it is pointing to the #1 cylinder.
