I need some help quickly. I took my 87-88 F-150 to a auto repair-transmission shop for some work. The truck is an 88 with a 300 5-speed. The cab is an 87 that had a 4-speed. When I switched cabs I cut the clutch line, pricey mistake #1. I obtained a new line from Ford. I was able to connect the line to the master cyclinder but did not have the correct tool, internal slave, for the transmission. This is why I took it to the shop. Now..I get a call last night and was told that I needed a new master or the one from the 88 since they are not the same, are they the same and would the 87's work? He also said that I was given the wrong line, not a big suprise, but it is identical to the one that was cut off. Then he tells me that the part sticking out of the trans, a barbed connector, was cut off and he would have to pull the trans to fix it. The only thing that was cut off was the hose. Now before I go and look too stupid, will the master cylinders interchange? On an internal slave are the connectors different? I have several diagrams that show he is way off. HELP
I was pretty sure that they were the same. Go to a parts shop and ask to see a clutch master cylinder for an 88 and an 87. Do your comparison then. Maybe hit the ford dealership and see what they can tell you.
Pull up your favorite parts store on the Internet and look up your part. You can check the same part for various year models to see which will interchange.
