anyone know of a good online walk through? i've removed all the screws, but don't want to pull too hard not knowing which way the small little tabs behind the panel face...
i just did mine & it was easy. just insert a slot screwdriver between the panel & door frame & gently pop it loose. you will invariably lose or break some of those plastic tabs but they are cheap at the zone or o'reillys. remember after you pop it loose you will have to lift it up about an inch- a small lip that goes into the window opening. once this is done you will need to wiggle the door handle through its opening then unscrew the window controls. yes it's that easy! if i can do it then anyone can - i'm the worst at fixing things!
Just got some new Pioneer 3-ways and looking to install tomorrow. I read through the Ford manual and it reads just as bryan1 says. I anticipate losing little stuff, but just hope not to rip paneling. Wish me luck!
Completed the swap in about 30 minutes for both. Went very quickly following the Ford manual. Had to cut/solder the wires because Ford uses a those clip assemblies for all electrical connections. Great music again! And only a couple broken plastic snaps.

That is one way to go, or you can go down to the local stereo store (circuit city, best buy, etc...) and pick up adapters for a couple of bucks that allow you to plug aftermarket speakers directly into the factory harness. When removing the door panels on a 96, if you have power windows and locks, just remember to remove the switch panel and unplug it before popping the panel off. You will also need to unplug the courtesy lamp at the bottom of the door panel if you have them.
