Ok, to me this is an odd problem, but you guys probably know the answer already. Every time I set the E-brake with the truck running, the ABS light comes on and won't go off until I shut off and restart the truck. It never comes on any other time. To borrow from Seinfeld, "What's up with that?"
Well the only relationship between the parking brake and the ABS I can think of is maybe a bad ground. When you apply the parking brake, it grounds the little switch at the pedal assembly turning on the brake light. Maybe there is a bad ground somewhere and it's back feeding through the brake light circuit into the ABS module.
Have you had codes pulled? Maybe try doing so with the E-Brake on.. it may give you a clue.
Have you checked out the link in the tech info thread at the top of this forum?
I have now, but if there's something specific you're tring to tell me, I missed it. There's a procedure for 2000 to pull the RABS codes, and for EEC-IV.
I guess you're trying to tell me to pull the codes, which I will do. I just thought that this might be something simple that others have experienced before.
The brake fluid is fine. The red "Brake" light only comes on while the e-brake is depressed. It goes off as soon as I release the e-brake. However, the ABS light stays on until I shut of the truck.
The only reason I need the e-brake right now is when I want to leave the truck running and the A/C on while I go in to 7Eleven for a Super Big Gulp, so it's not a big deal. :-)
Oh, and the year! I can't believe I did that again. I need to make a sig I guess. I have a 1997 Ranger SuperCab 4x2 2.3 5speed.
